Given : point p (-3,2). plot reflections of point p in x-axis and y-axis denote these points by q and r respectively

To find : name the type of triangle pqr so formed

Solution:

p = (-3 , 2)

reflections of point p in x-axis   ( x axis remains same , y axis sign change)

=> q =  (-3 , - 2)

reflections of point p in y-axis  ( y axis remains same , x axis sign change)

=> r =  ( 3 ,  2)

p = (-3 , 2) q =  (-3 , - 2)  r =  ( 3 ,  2)

pq ║  y axis

pr ║ x axis

=> pq & pr are perpendicular to eeach other

Hence Δpqr is right angle triangle

pq  =  4

pr =  6

qr = √4² + 6²   = √60

or  qr = √(3 -(-3))² + (2 -(-2))² = √6² + 4²   = √60

Pythagoras also verified

Δ pqr is right angle triangle
