On the occasion of republic day, a school organized a poster making competition for the students of class 6. The topic was 'National integration '. Each child was given a square sheet of side 60cm. They had to make a border of width 2 CM using the coloured tape and the remaining portion had to be divided into four equal portion to show main teachings of different religions.
A) Find the length of the coloured tape needed for the border.

If the tap is needed only for the outer border, then the length of the tap needed would be same as the perimeter of the square.

so, length, L = 60 x 4 = 240 cm.


Case B:

If the tap is needed for the outer border, as well as to separate the internal four squares, then the length of the tap needed would be the sum of perimeter of the square and the vertical and horizontal lines (the length of which are same as the length of the square).

so, length, L = (60 x 4) + 60 + 60

= 240 + 60 + 60

= 360 cm.
