On the principle of materialism, tell the fundamental difference between Heigl and Marx:

Both Marx and Hegel were Materialists, but differed to one another based on their interpretation of Materialism.

Hegel:

  • Hegel was an idealistic Christian who died in 1831.
  • Hegel progagated the Historical Materialism.
  • Hegel stresses the essence of the ideas and theory, but Marx talks of  reality and truth.
  • Under Hegel's view, Idea is of primary importance because it occurs at first and the reality is of secondary importance.
  • Thus, unlike Hegel, Marx gave material reality the primacy, while considering ideas to be secondary.

Marx:

  • Marx was a materialistic atheist who died in 1883.
  • Marx was Hegel's student and was famously called 'Young Hegelian'.
  • Marx propagated Dialectical Materialism.
  • But even so, Marx had said that find use of Hegel's dialectics he had to "turn him upside down on his head".
  • Marx acknowledges this process of evolution, but the fundamental difference is that there is no space for Idea in Marx's philosophical framework.
