On the story "shady plot" why did helen appear in bits and pieces

Helen appeared in bits and pieces because she wanted to help John, but being a ghost, she was not able to make her presence known completely as it was difficult to materialize immediately. Moreover, she was tired of answering questions for people who sought help from her and other ghosts using Ouija boards.
