\large{\underline{\underline{\sf Endoplasmic \ Reticulum \ \colon}}}

  • Endoplasmic Reticulum is categorised into Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum and Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum on the basis of presence of Ribosomes

  • Under a microscope,the RER appears to be Rough and Granulated due to the presence of Ribosomes while SER is Agranulated and Smooth

  • RER helps in production of Proteins while SER aids the production of Phospholipids

  • Further ribosomes are of two types, namely 70S and 80S. Here, 'S' stands for Svedberg's Unit. It measures the sedimentation rate

  • 70S ribosomes are found in prokaryotes and are made up subunits 50S and 30S

  • While 80S ribosomes are found in eukaryotes with 60S and 40S as the subunits
