Such medical conditions which occur suddenly and last for the brief periodin the body, are said to be the acute disease. But the medical condition where the disease occurs slowly and last for a long time or sometimes for the entire life is called as the chronic disease.

A chronic condition, by contrast is a long-developing syndrome, such as osteoporosis or asthma. Note that osteoporosis, a chronic condition, may cause a broken bone, an acute condition. An acute asthma attack occurs in the midst of the chronic disease of asthma. Acute conditions, such as a first asthma attack, may lead to a chronic syndrome if untreated.

if short duration then it is acute like cold, fever etc

if long duration then it is chronic..like Cancer,aids,etc
