Acidic Nature

Presence of water let's acid to show it's acidic properties. This happens as follows :-

  • When an acid like HCl reacts with water i.e., H₂O then reaction is

HCl (acid) + H₂O → H₃O + Cl

  • Here the compound H₃O is quite stable carrying acidic properties of changing blue litmus red.

Hence presence of water is main factor for showing acidic properties.

[Note : Acids always produces H⁺ ions in water to form H₃O]
