In the dairy industry, feed intake can be considered as one of the major limitations. In most cases the dairy animals are fed with dry food intake. This is done in comparison to the concentration of moisture. This factor is affected by animal as well as feeds. Apart from this, there are a number of other factors on which the feed intake for dairy animals would depend.

Some of the other factors may also include the overall body size of the animal, lactation stage of the dairy animal and total milk volume production by the dairy animal.

The animals that produced more amount of milk on daily basis would be offered with over 5 percent of feed as compared to their overall body weight. In general the feed percentage for dairy animals may vary between 3.5 to around 4 percent of their body weight.
