The resistance of a conductor first of all depends on the material of which it is made. This is because the resistivity varies from the material to material. Then it depends on the length and the area of the conductor. Resistance is directly proportional to the length and inversely proportional to area.

There are four factors that influence the resistance in a conductor. Thickness (cross sectional area of the wire), length, and temperature. The fourth factor is the conductivity of the material that is used. Some metals (copper, silver) are just more electrically conductive than others (iron, aluminum).
