On what value discount is always calculated?

Discount is always calculated on marked price.

$Discount = \frac{Marked \: Price \: \times \: Discount\%}{100}$

amankumaraman11: The consumer first sets a marked price( that is far different from Cost price) even above the cost price or below the cost price...
