The Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi had launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan at Rajpath, New Delhi on October 2nd, 2014.

The day was chosen as it is the birth anniversary of two great Indian leaders, Mahatma Gandhi and former PM of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri.

The PM, Mr. Modi had announced that he had started this program keeping in mind the Gandhiji’s vision of a Clean India.

Mr. Modi had elaborated that Gandhiji had 2 dreams for India – Quit India, and Clean India.

The “Quit India” dream had come true with the help of many leaders and the “Clean India” dream was still unfulfilled.

Therefore, he emphasized that it was the social responsibility of the citizens of India to fulfill the Clean India vision by Gandhiji’s 150th birth anniversary in 2019.
