if you understand what cause friction, it'd be easy for you to understand the factors on which it depends.

a body moving on a surface gives a force against the surface due to its mass. the body should have just slid passed smoothly if the surface were smooth, but no surface is perfectly smooth and always has rough edges (even if it appears to be perfectly smooth). when the body moves on the surface, their rough surfaces move against each other and get interlocked. this causes the force called friction.

thus if you remember this, you can easily figure that friction will depend upon the mass of the moving body and the smoothness of the surface in contact.
