Transformer is a static device that transfers electric power from one circuit to other, without any change in frequency.

The principle that transformer works on is mutual induction or Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction.

This states that: magnetic field can be produced through electric current and the change in the field will induce voltage across the end of the coils.
