On which type of food does salivary amylase act and what is the end product formed in this reaction?

Salivary amylase or Ptyalin ,the enzyme produced by salivary gland in the buccal cavity act over carbohydrates(starch) and convert it into maltose(sugar)

The salivary glands secrete saliva which contains an enzyme called salivary amylase which converts starch present in food into sugar.
