Around 300 years ago, there used to be a dense spooky jungle somewhere in the east. A rain forest, where even sunlight was forbidden to enter without the permission of the giant Godzilla trees.

Humans use to avoid passing through the jungle, but for some it was the only way to their villages. One day, a woodcutter was passing through the jungle and after walking for hours, he was tired and thought of taking a quick nap under a huge banyan tree. While he was sleeping, a troop of monkeys came and took the bag he was carrying. When the woodcutter saw the monkeys taking away his bag, he realized that he had to do something quickly! Just in time he remembered what his forefathers had told him. "Whenever monkeys steal something from you, throw something at the monkeys! They will try to imitate you, and will throw back whatever they have in their hands." So the woodcutter started throwing stones at the monkeys. Seeing this the monkey tried to copy the man and started throwing whatever they could gather and in the process also threw woodcutter’s bag. The man thanked his forefathers, took his bag and went back smiling to his village.

In the same year, the carpenter gave birth to a boy who went on to become a leading marketer. Few months ago, when his son got a new job as a "Chief Marketing Officer" with a leading MNC, the carpenter decided to gift a collection of case studies of the 'top 10 fortune 500 companies which failed and don't exist anymore'. The son said to his dad, “Thanks dad, but these companies operated in a totally different economic scenario back then. Now the customer has gone digital, the marketing tactics are completely different, the consumer purchase process has changed, they are talking about social selling now, CEM, Big data, IOT, digital transformation, ocean strategy.....emmmm..... aaaandddddd.......The carpenter raised his hand, (gesturing his son to stop blabbering), then he looked deeply into his son's eyes, and with an intense stare and pause, said, "Son, Once upon a time there was a dense jungle................".
