Once upon a time there lived a young and vibrant person. He was very hard working and wanted to earn more and help his mother. He chopped wood every day to earn for his food and for his mother’s medicine. Sometimes when it rained, he would get less money because cutting log becomes difficult during this time. So he would have to sacrifice his food money to buy medicines and to take care of her needs.
But soon, his mother felt her end coming near and asked him to find a girl and settle before she died. So he took a day off from his job and searched for a perfect girl. He went from house to house in his colony but found none. He was sad, but he never left hope. He went on and on till he saw a beautiful woman passing with another person. He looked at them and then saw that the woman was throwing away garbage as she walked.
“What is the use of beauty when she damages her own mother?” he asked himself.
Seeing this, he knew that he wanted a person of good character and not a beautiful one. So went on again for his little adventure around the woods and came to the next colony. There he saw a group of woman working hard but making different things from bangles to food products. And then there was this woman, who looked like almost a teenager but the way she did her job of grinding the spices was like a mature person, without wasting nor blowing out the things given to her. She did her job quietly unlike others who were talking with each other.
So he waited till there and waited for her to move away from that place and followed her back to her house. He saw her father and asked and talked a lot with him and then it was decided that her father will come and meet his mother.
The very next day, her father was there at the front door. The father of the girl and the mother of the boy talked for sometime and then the father stood and smiled at the boy as he went far away from the door.
The mother told her son that in three days the marriage will be conducted and he better get ready for it. The son was bit sad with all this sudden things but he kept it to himself.
The day of marriage, there was just 6 people; the son, the girl, parents of the girl and the boy, and the priest. No one else came to this wedding. The daughter didn’t smile the whole day. "Why should the daughter always leave the house and go to someone else's house? Why can't the son go and stay in the daughter's house?" She asked herself. But she didn’t say anything to anyone. Before leaving her parents, she cried till she was called by her newly wed husband.
She was a nice wife and she liked her husband too. They always agreed on others’ wishes. Soon, her husband’s mother died. Her husband cried the whole day and she remembered her day when she too cried after the marriage and parting away from her parents. But she did feel sad as after all it was happy family.
Soon, the death of the mother was forgotten by the son and he soon continued with his job. He had now gotten a job as clerk in a government office and he got payed every month too. Soon the family was filled with happiness by the birth of a baby boy. Cute little boy. His fingers were so small that when he grabbed the whole finger of the father, the father felt very happy. His heart filled with joy.
The couple soon named the boy "Binil". Binil soon grew up and though he wasn't quite bright in studies, he was smart and well behaved. Soon he finished his schooling. He wanted to join the army. But his mother didn’t want him to go to the army as the wars were coming soon and then the army might put her son into the war field and she might lose her son. So she was against the idea of sending her son at all. She wanted more time with him and wanted to enjoy her life with her son.
But soon with lot of persuasion from her son and husband, she finally agreed. Binil's father gave lots of advice on how to live alone and in case of anyone coming and bulling him, his father advised him to smile, because smile is something no one can ignore. They talked about hygiene and warned him against thiefs and then they went to sleep.
After around two weeks, Binil got his Letter of Acceptance from the Army department as a reply for his letter. He was called and he had to be there for next Tuesday. That’s 5 more days.
On the 4th day, Binil took a train and it was a 8 hour journey. This is the first time he was travelling alone and he sincerely remembered his father’s advice. He looked out of the window and enjoyed the scenery as he passed through the farmland
