Pros:
1. Lower density of Al (2.7g/cc vs 8g/cc of Steel) implies lower weight for same volume of material used. Thus, leading to lighter vehicles and subsequently, improved fuel efficiency and mileage.
2. Better and more controlled malleability and formability.
3. Al is passive- it forms a passive (corrosion-resistant) layer of Al2O3, which prevents further corrosion of material.
4. Excellent thermal conductivity, thereby useful in scenarios requiring rapid transmission and exit of heat, especially engines and fins.
5. Ease of recycling-Recyclability without compromising purity/ quality.
Cons:
1. Poor weldability.
2. Poor fatigue resistance and Young's modulus
3. Poor strength, unless alloyed.
