One aeroplane travels north at 300 kmh-1 while the other travels south 300 kmh-1. Are their speed same? Are velocities the same explain in calculation?

The answer goes like this..

Speed is a physical quantity that focuses only on the magnitude no matter what direction is followed.

Thus. since both the magnitudes are same i.e. 300 km/hr.

So..speeds are same.

But velocities determines both magnitude as well as direction.

So one maybe taken on +ve y axis say North direction = 300 km/hr

Another will be on -ve y axis say South = -300km/hr
