One beautiful day in late summer a grasshopper was leaping around happily in a field of ripe corn. As he

chirped and sang, he noticed a column of ants walking along a small trail in the dirt. The ants moved very

slowly because each carried a large kernel of corn to their nest.

Why are you working so hard? The grasshopper asked one ant, this wonderful weather was made to enjoy

.Come and celebrate the day with me.

I am helping set aside food for the winter, the wise ant replied. Don’t you want to do the same so you have

food when the weather turns cold and snow covers the ground?

I am not worried about winter, said the grasshopper. I have plenty of food to enjoy right now .For the

rest of the summer, the grasshopper continued dancing and singing while the ants diligently gathered

food.

Then winter came. The cold and snow did not trouble the ants, who had plenty to eat because they had

stored up corn and grain. But the foolish grasshopper found no food and feared he might die of hunger .It

was then that the grasshopper learned it is wise to plan ahead and be ready for the future.
