The probability of selecting a coin with a number which is a multiple of 5 is 1 / 5.

• Given,

Numbers on the coins kept in a bag = 1 to 40

=> Total number of coins in the bag = 40

• Multiples of 5 are the numbers which have either 0 or 5 in their units' place.

• Therefore, the multiples of 5 from 1 to 40 are :

5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40

• Therefore,

Probability (P) of selecting a coin with a multiple of 5 = Number of coins with multiples of 5 / Total number of coins in the bag

=> P = 8 / 40

=> P = 1 / 5 (Answer)
