The probability of a card drawn is a king is 1/13

The probability of a card drawn is a king is 1/13 The probability of a card drawn is not a king is 12/13

GIVEN

Pack of 52 cards

TO FIND

The probability of a drawn card will be -

  1. A King
  2. Not a king

SOLUTION:

We can simply solve the problem as under -

Probability is defined as the ratio of the number of favorable to the total outcomes.

probability =  \frac{favorable \: outcomes}{total \: number \: outcomes}

we know,

There are four suits in a pack of 52 cards -

13 cards - Heart

13 cards - Diamond

13 cards - spades

13 cards - Clubs

Each suit has 1 king.

so, the total number of King cards = 52/13 = 4 cards

Probability of King cards = 4/52 = 1/13.

Favorable outcomes for the card to be drawn that is not a king = Total number of cards - Number of King cards

Favorable outcome = 52-4 = 48

Probability of not king cards = 48/52 = 12/13

Hence,

The probability of a card drawn is a king is 1/13

The probability of a card drawn is a king is 1/13 The probability of a card drawn is not a king is 12/13
