. One day, Hari walked along a circular track for
3 hours. He then cycled along the track for the time he
would take to walk one round around the track and
thereby covered a total of 9 rounds. Another day, he
walked along the track for 4 hours and then drove his
motorcycle along the track for the time he would take
to walk one round around the track and thereby
covered a total of 14 rounds. If the speeds of his
cycling and motorcycle were 5 km/hr and 10 km/hr
respectively, then find his walking speed.

Given :  One day, Hari walked along a circular track for 3 hours. He then cycled along the track for the time he would take to walk one round around the track and thereby covered a total of 9 rounds.

Another day, he walked along the track for 4 hours and then drove his

motorcycle along the track for the time he would take to walk one round around the track and thereby covered a total of 14 rounds.

the speeds of his cycling and motorcycle were 5 km/hr and 10 km/hr

respectively,

To Find  his walking speed.

Solution:

Round covered in  3 hrs  =  3x

Then Round covered in  4 hrs  =  4x

Round covered by cycle  = y

then Round covered by motor cycle  = 2y

as speed of motorcycle is twice then cycle and both  for same time of one round of walk

3x  + y  = 9

4x  + 2y  = 14

=>  x = 2   and  y  =  3

Round covered in  4 hrs   =  4x = 4 * 2 = 8

=> 1 round covered in 1/2 hr

Round covered by motorcycle in 1/2  hr  =  14  - 8 = 6

motorcycle covered  6 round while  by walk  1  round in same time 1/2 hr

=> Speed of walk = 10/6  = 5/3  km/hr

 his walking speed. =  5/3  km/hr
