Let the present age of son be x and the age of father be x2
According to the question
1 year ago
Age of son=x-1
age of father=x2 - 1
x2-1=5(x-1)
x2-1=5x-5
x2-5x-1+5=0
x2-5x+4=0
by factorisation
x2-4x-x+4=0
x(x-4)-1(x-4)=0
(x-4)(x-1)=0
If x-4=0
x=4
the present age of son is 4years
And the present age of his father is (4)2=16 years..

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Ethan1 Virtuoso

let the present age of son be x and age of father be y

ATQ

y= 8(x-1)

y= x^2

then putting eqn 1 in 2

8x - 7 = x^2

x^2-8x+8=0

x= 4
