One day while visiting a friend, you notice that their house plant is extremely wilted and decide to water the plant. 30 minutes later the plant is now standing stiff and tall. What is happening to the plant on a cellular level?
AThe cells of the plant contained too many ions preventing water from entering. Once water was added to the plant, the ions left the cell and were replaced with water.
B.The cells of the plant contained very little water and had pulled away from the cell wall. When water was added the cells refilled until they were pushing against the cell walls and causing it to stand upright.
C.The cells of the plant didn't have enough nutrients to build cytoskeleton. When water was added, the plant was able to take up more nutrients and make more cytoskeleton. The cells of the plant were too cold.
D.The water helped them warm up so they could become turgid.

Answer: its is basically due to high transpiration tahn the intake of water and in this case when the soil of a plant runs too low of available water, the water chains in the xylem become thinner and thinner due to less water.

alvairis1995: which answer choice ??
kumararpan: Not sure but i think its B
kumararpan: There is no role of ions here because water is absorbed by simply diffusion
