One end of a cylindrical rod is kept in steam chamber and the other end in melting ice.Now0.5 grams of ice melts in 1 sec.If the rod is replaced by another rod of same length, half the diameter and double the conductivity of the 1st rod, then rate of melting of ice will be?
1)0.25gm/sec
2)0.5gm/sec
3)1gm/sec
4)2gm/sec

Rate of melting point is given as 0.25 g/s.

Explanation:

We know, rate of flow due to conduction is given as

dQ÷dT = kA×ΔT÷L

We Know,

dm÷dt×L=kA×ΔT÷L

For another rod, we have

dm'÷dt×L=(2k)(A÷4)ΔT÷L

From above equations,

(dm'÷dt)÷(dm÷dt)= 1÷2

Therefore,

dm'÷dt=0.5×0.5

dm'÷dt=0.25g/s

Energy is needed to melt a solid because the cohesive links between the particles in the solid need are torn aside such that, in the water, the particles can travel around at similar kinetic reactions; thus, there is no increase in heat. Likewise, energy is required to evaporate a liquid, because particles in water communicate with each other through engaging forces. There is no temperature difference until a point conversion is finished. The warmth of a cup of soda originally at 0ºC waits at 0ºC till all the crystal has softened. Conversely, the pressure is delivered during freezing and reduction, usually in the pattern of thermic energy. Production is performed by cohesive energies when particles are brought together. The similar force must be given off to provide them to stay concurrently.
