One end of a uniform rod of mass m and length l is clamped. The rod lies on a smooth horizontal surface and rotates on it about the clamped end at a uniform angular velocity ω. The force exerted by the clamp on the rod has a horizontal component

(b) zero
(c) mg
(d) ½mω²l.

Answer ⇒ Option (d). 1/2 × mω²l.

Explanation ⇒ According to the question, the rod rotates on the horizontal surface, therefore the horizontal component of the force applied by the clamp will be given by the formula of the centripetal force.

∴ Horizontal component of the Force or the Centripetal Force = mω²r

= mω² × (l/2)

= 1/2 × mω²l.

Hence, Option (d). is correct.

Hope it helps.
