One famous story tells of Alexander the Great's courage as a boy. His father
Philip once thought of buying a lovely horse. It was however a dangerous
animal that would not allow anyone to mount it. Some people also advised
him not to go for it. Philip was about to give up his plan to buy that horse in
disgust. Alexander, who was only twelve years old then, said, "That is too good
a horse for these men to certify that way. They do not have the skill to handle
him rightly." Philip was surprised. "What do you mean”, he said, "by criticizing
your elders? Are you wise than they?" The boy replied, “I would handle the
horse better than anyone else, if they give me chance." Everybody laughed.
