Let the total no. of deers be x

One fourth of a herd of deer has gone to the forest = x/4

One third of the total number is

grazing in a field = x/3

No. of deer drinking water = x-(x/4+x/3)

15 = x - (3x+4x/12)

15 = x - 7x/12

15 = 12x-7x/12

15 = 5x/12

15×12/5 = x

36 = x
