let the number be x

1/4x + 2/7x =135

LCM of 4 and 7 is 28

(7+8)x/28=135

15x=135×28

x=135 × 28/15

x=9×28=252

Answer:

the number is 252

Step-by-step explanation:

  • let the number be x
  • one fourth of the number = 1/4 x
  • two seventh of the number = 2/7 x

 \frac{1}{4} x +  \frac{2}{7} x = 135 \\  >  > lcm \: of \: 4 \: and \: 7 \: is \: 28 <  <  \\  \frac{7x + 8x}{28}  = 135 \\ 15x = 135 \times 28 \\ x =  \frac{135 \times 28}{15}  \\ x =  \frac{3780}{15}  \\ x = 252
