\underline{\underline{\bf SOLUTION :}}

Let the number be x

So,

now one fourth of number is

\bf \frac{1}{4} \times x\\\\=\frac{x}{4}

Increased by 1  equal to 4, which is

\bf \frac{x}{4}+1=4\\\\\rightarrow \frac{x}{4}=4-1 \\\\[\bf transporting\:\:1 to \:\:RHS]\\\\\rightarrow \frac{x}{4}=3\\\\\rightarrow x = 3\times4\\\\ [\bf transporting 4 to RHS]\\\\\rightarrow x = 12

Hence,

The value of x = 12

Therefore the number is 12

\underline{\underline{\bf Verification}}

\bf LHS= \frac{x}{4}+1\\\\= \frac{12}{4}+1\\\\= 3+1\\=4 = RHS

Hence,

RHS = LHS
