let the number =x
one fourth of the number exceeds one fifth of its succeeding number by 5

x/4 - (x+1)/5=5

[5x-4(x+1)]/20 = 5
5x-4x-4=20*5
x-4 =100
x= 100+4
x= 104
the required number = x=104

Let the no. be x

so 1/4 of an no. which means = 1x/4

exceeds 1/5 of i's succeeding no. = 1(x+1)/5

by 5 = +5

ATQ

x/4 = (x+1)/5 +5

now solving

x/4 = x+1+25/5

cross multiplication

x *5 = 4(x+26)

5x = 4x+104

1x = 104

x = 104
