Number of birds in the nest will be 8

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the total number f birds are x

Then \frac{1}{4}\times x=\frac{x}{4} birds are at the river bank

And \frac{1}{5}\times x=\frac{x}{5} birds are in the nest

So total number of birds at the river bank and in the nest =\frac{x}{5}+\frac{x}{4}=\frac{9x}{20}

So number of birds left x-\frac{9x}{20}=\frac{11x}{20}

As in question it is given that number of birds left are 22

So \frac{11x}{20}=22

x = 40

So number of birds in the nest =\frac{1}{5}\times 40=8
