The number of birds in the nest is 8.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of birds in the nest = x

Than, one fourth of birds are flock at river = x/4

One fifth are in nest = x/5

Remaining birds  =  22

Solution:

x/4 +x/5+22 =x

5x +  4x + 440 = 20x

440 = 11 x

x = 40

Total number of birds =40

The number of birds in nest=40/5=8

Hence the number of birds in the nest is 8.
