Answer: If one fourth of the number exceeds one sixth of the number by 3 then the number is 36. The four times of the number is 144.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number be x.
According to question
One- fourth of the number exceeds one-sixth of number by 3
we can write it as an equation as follows:
\frac{1}{4} x- \frac{1}{6} x =3
Taking LCM of 4 and 6 and the resultant is 12

\frac{3x-2x}{12} = 3
\frac{x}{12} = 3
After cross multplying we get
x= 36
Hence the number is 36.
Now we have to answer second part of question that is 4 times of the number
Four times of 36  = 4 x 36= 144.
Hence the number is 36 and the four times of the number is 144.
