i think so it is true because someone has asked this question but dont know the reason

Answer:  True

Explanation:

A start winding is needed to start the spinning in a single phase motor. This is typically turned off when the motor is about 75% of the way filled. When comparing motors with identical horsepower ratings, single phase motors consume more current. Typically, single phase motors are substantially larger than three phase motors with equal ratings.

A three-phase motor runs more smoothly. It automatically starts when connected to a three-phase power source because the three-phase connection generates a revolving magnetic field in the motor windings. The current in the rotor is produced by this revolving magnetic field. Without the need for a start winding, the rotor rotates due to the magnetic field produced by the rotor current, which interacts with the magnetic field produced by the winding.
