We know that,

Rate of effusion ∝ volume

Rate of effusion ∝ \frac{1}{time}

Rate of effusion ∝ \frac{1}{molar mass}

On the basis of above relations,

\frac{1*20*60}{2*311} = \sqrt{\frac{M(O2)}{M(CH_{4}) } }

\sqrt{\frac{M(O2)}{M(CH_{4}) } }[/tex] = \frac{1200}{622}</p><p>\sqrt{\frac{M(O2)}{M(CH_{4}) } } = 1.93

On squaring both side,

\frac{M(O_{2}) }{M(CH_{4}) } =  3.72</p><p>Vapor density = [tex]Vapor  density = \frac{Molar mass}{2}

Vapor density of O_{2} = \frac{3.72}{2} =  1.86

Vapor density of (CH_{4}) = \frac{1}{2} = 0.5
