Given:

The price of the products are as follows:

1 glass: Rs. 3

1 plate: Rs. 5

40 spoon: Rs. 1 ⇒ 1 spoon: Rs. \frac{1}{40}

Elephant: Rs. 10

Total no. of products = 100

Total price of the products = Rs. 100

To find:

The number of plate, spoon and glass  that were purchased

Solution:

Let's assume:

"G" → no. of glass

"P" → no. of plates

"S" → no. of spoons

Since the total no. of products should be 100, so we can form an equation as,

G + P + S = 100 ...... (i)

Also, the total price of the products should be Rs. 100

3G + 5P + \frac{1}{40}S = 100 .... (ii)

We will multiply \frac{1}{40}\: i.e., 0.025 throughout equation (i) and we get a new eq. as,

0.025G + 0.025P + 0.025S = 100 × 0.025

0.075G + 0.075P + 0.075S = 2.5 ...... (iii)

We will subtract eq. (iii) from eq. (ii),

[3G + 5P + \frac{1}{40}S] - [0.075G + 0.075P + 0.075S] = 100 - 2.5

⇒ [3G - 0.075G] + [5P - 0.075P] + [0.075S - 0.075S] = 97.5

2.925G + 4.925P = 97.5 ...... (iv)

Now,

We will take the value of G as 1, 2, 3,..... in eq. (iv) and find the value for P

Firstly we will assume G = 1

2.925×1 + 4.925P = 97.5

⇒ 4.925P = 97.5 - 2.925

⇒ 4.925P = 94.575

⇒ P = \frac{94.575}{4.925}

P = 19.20 ≈ 19 → since the number of plates cannot be in decimal so we have taken the nearest value

From above we conclude that the by taking the value as 1 the no. of plates is 19.

Therefore, substituting G = 1 and P = 19 in eq. (i), we get

G + P + S = 100

⇒ 1 + 19 + S = 100

⇒ 20 + S = 100

⇒ S = 100 - 20

S = 80

Verify:

Total no. of products = 1 + 19 + 80 = 100

Total price = (3×1) + (5×19) + (80÷40) = 100

Since both the conditions of the price and the number of products are met by the assumed value therefore our final answer is achieved.

Thus,

\boxed{\:The\: no.\: of\: plates\: are\: 19.}\\\boxed{\:The\: no.\: of\: glass\: is\: 1.}\\\\\boxed{\:The\: no.\: of\: spoons\: are\: 80.}
