One morning, eight buses arrive at a bus stop the number of minutes late for each bus is shown below 0,8,2,6,9,2,0,8 in the afternoon, two more buses arrive at the bus stop the median number of minutes late of all ten buses is 3.5 the mode number of minutes late of all ten buses is 0. How many minutes late were the two afternoon buses?

Lets arrange the numbers in ascending order

0,0,2,2,6,8,8,9

Since after adding two more terms in the numbers, we have mode=0, so one of the numbers should be 0

So the new series becomes

0,0,0,2,2,x,6,8,8,9

x is taken between 2 and 6 because if x is elsewhere, the median becomes the avg of  2 and 6, i.e 4, which is incorrect

Now median= 3.5 =(2+x)/2

which gives us x=5
