One number exceeds another number by 5. Two times the smaller number diminished by the greater number equals 9. Find the larger number.

Answer:

larger number = x

smaller number = x-5

given = 2(x-5) - x = 9

=> 2x - 10 - x = 9

=> x = 19

there greater number = 19

so smaller number = 19-5 = 14
