From what I understood,
Two numbers a, b.
One number is three times another : a = 3b
If larger number is subtracted from 16 : a - 16
result is 5 less than smaller number subtracted from 55 : 55 - b - 5 (= a- 16)
i.e. a - 16 = 55 - b - 5
a - 16 = 50 - b (but a = 3b)
4b = 66 then b = 16.5
a = 3b = 49.5
