Given: One number is 4 more than 5 times another number and if 6 is added to each, the first number is three times the second resulting number.

To find: The two numbers

Let: First number = X and second number = Y

Solution: According to the given question,

One number is 4 more than 5 times the another number

If first number is X and second number is Y, the equation will be

⇒ X = 5Y + 4                                                        ...(1)

also, if 6 is added to both the numbers, then the first number is three times the second resulting number

⇒ X + 6 = 3(Y +6)   or X = 3Y + 18 - 6                 ...(2)

Comparing the values of X from equation (1) and (2)

⇒ 5Y + 4 = 3Y + 12

⇒ 5Y - 3Y = 12 - 4

⇒ 2Y = 8

Y = 8/2 = 4

Putting the value of Y in equation (1)

⇒ X = 3 x 4 + 12

X = 12 + 12 = 24

Therefore, the first number (X) is 24 and second number (Y) is 4.
