Answer:

Lets one number be x

and another number be y

So the equation is

x = 5 + y ........(1)

Note:- y is the smaller number

6y = 5y

Put the equation (1) here

6y = 5( 5 + y )

6y = 25 + 5y

y = 25

put the value of y in equation (1)

hence, x = 30.

Answer and explanation:

Let the two numbers be a and b.

Given that one number is 5 more than the other number,

a = 5 + b                     ---------------------- (i)

Now, larger number = a and smaller number = b

Also, 6 times the smaller number is equal to 5 times the larger number. (given)

∴ 6 times b = 5 times a

6×b = 5×a

6b = 5a

6b = 5(5+b)                  [From (i)]

6b = 25 + 5b

6b -  5b = 25

b = 25

Putting the value of b in (i), we get

a = 5 + b

a = 5 + 25

a = 30

∴ Larger number, a = 30

Smaller number, b = 25

Hence, the two numbers are 30 and 25 respectively.
