let the smaller no. be X

and the larger no. be 5X

According to question

5X - 8 = 3X

5X - 3X = 8

2X = 8

X = 8/2

X = 4

So smaller no. = 4

and larger no.= 5×4 = 20

Hope it will help you

Given

 \rm{let \: the \: smallest \: number \: be \: x}

 \rm{let \: the \:greatest \: number \: be \: 5x}

 \rm{ \:18 \: is \: subtrcted \: from \: greater \: number \: </p><p> \:5x - 18}

 \rm{it \: equal \: to \: 3 \: times \: smaller}

 \rm{i.e}

 \bf{ \huge{ \boxed{ \red{ \tt{5x - 18 = 3x \: }}}}}

 \sf{5x - 3 = 18}

 \sf{2x = 18}

  \sf{ \times  = \frac{18}{2}}

 \sf{x = 9}

 \rm{ \: so \: 9 \: is \: smaller \: number}

 \rm{now \: to \:  get \:  bigger \:  number  \: multiply  \: 5times \:  9 I.e.  \: 5×9=45}

 \bf{ \huge{ \boxed{ \pink{ \tt{smaller \: number \: is \:9 \: }}}}}

 \sf{ \huge{ \boxed{ \red{ \sf{big \: number \: is \: 45 \: }}}}}
