Let one number be x
So by the condition,other number is 2x+5
Sum of the numbers=23
X+2x+5=23
3x+5=23
3x=23-5
3x=18
X=18/3
X=6
So the first number,x=6 and the other number,2x+5=2*6+5
=12+5=17

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the first no. =x

the second no.=y

A/Q

x=2y+5. (when x is greater than y)

x-2y=5. (1)

again,

x+y=23. (2)

From (1) ×1+ (2)×2

x-2y=5

2x+2y=46

Add,

3x=51

x=51÷3

x=17

Putting value of (x) on (1) equation

x-2y=5

17-2y =5

-2y=5-17

-y=-12÷2

-y=-6

y= 6
