One number is three times another ,and four times the smaller added to five times grater amount to 133;find them

Let :

• Smaller number = x
• Greater number = y

Given :

• Greater number is three times the smaller number
• 4 times the smaller number + 5 times greater number = 133

To find :

Both numbers ( x & y)

Solution :

1) Greater number is three times the smaller number

y = 3x ...... equation 1

2) 4 times the smaller number + 5 times greater number = 133

➝ 4x + 5y = 133

Put value of y from equation 1 into above equation.

➝ 4x + 5(3x) = 133

➝ 4x + 15x = 133

➝ 19x = 133

➝ x = 133/19

➝ x = 7

Now , put value of x in equation 1

➝ y = 3(7)

➝ y = 21

ANSWER :

• Smaller number (x) = 7
• Greater number (y) = 21
