Let the first number be a

Second number = 3a

According to question,

60 - 3a = ( 55 - a) - 5

=> 60 - 3a = 55 - a - 5

=> 60 - 3a = 50 - a

=> 60 - 50 = 3a - a

=> 2a = 10

=> a = 5

First number = 5

Second number = 15

Answer:

5 and 15 are the two required numbers .

Step-by-step explanation:

Explanation:

Given , one number is three times another number and

if larger number is subtracted from 60 the result is 5 less than the smaller

number subtracted from 55 .

Let x be the first number .

Then  according to the question second number be 3x.

Step 1:

Now , given that larger number is subtracted from 60  then the result is 5 less than the smaller number subtracted from 55 .

⇒ (60 - 3x ) = (55 - x ) - 5

⇒60 - 3x = 50 - x

⇒10 = 2x

⇒ x = 5

So first number is 5 and second number is 3x = 3 × 5 = 15 .

Final answer :

Hence , the two numbers is 5 and 15 .
