Answer:

My sympathies for your lost. Let me tell you a little story. I got married when I was 19. It was a morning wedding, and I was wearing a Morning Suit. Morning suits, back in the day had black jackets, stripped trousers, grey vests, and an ascot. My mother’s grandfather had an antique stickpin of 18 karat gold with a diamond in the middle of it. Now, think of this, my mother’s grandparents were born at the end of the Civil War, and my mother remembered playing in your grandfather’s lap while he was wearing that stick pin - her teeth marks wear embedded in the soft gold. She was very proud of that stickpin from the 19th century, and she allowed me to wear it for my wedding.

Long story short, I lost Great granddad’s stick pin. I stuck it in the pocket of the rented morning suit, the suit went back to the rental agency, and we never saw it again. That was nearly fifty years ago, my mother is 86, and every time I remember that stick pin, I feel a little sick.

Mom loved that stick pin, but she loves me more. Things are just things in the end, and people are vastly more important. The time you spend crying over those lost photos is time that you are losing with those you love right now. And believe me, the people right in front of you are the most important thing for you right now.

So, you sit down, and tell God that you know those photos are not as important as the people around you are, and you are going to do His Will by taking care of His Children in your life, and not going to spend any more wasting time crying over something which cannot be remedied. Tell Him that this is your intention, and, if He would be so kind as to help you the next time you stop and think of those photos, you would greatly appreciate it.

Then, just put them from your mind, look at your loved ones right now, find out what they are doing, and how you can help them right now.

Or as one of the best priest spiritual directors I ever had used to say all the time: James, First Things FIRST. If you concentrate on what you have to do right now, you will not have time to waste on what cannot be remedied.

You are in my prayers.
