The answer to the above question is:-
- One of the boys were absent today.
- Were is used for the past indicative second person and all plural forms.
- Here in this question were is used as 'boys' is the plural form of 'boy' and to describe plural forms of a word were is generally used.
- In case the second person is involved in that case as well 'were' is used.
- 'Were' may also be used in the past subjunctive.
