Question:

One of the two numbers exceeds the other by 4. Find the numbers if 2 less than 3 times of the larger number is equal to 5 times the smaller number.

Answer:

Smaller number = 5

Larger number = 9

Solution:

It is given that, one of the two numbers exceeds the other by 4.

Thus,

Let the the smaller number be x and the larger number be (x+4).

Also;

According to the question,

2 less than 3 times of the larger number is equal to 5 times the smaller number.

Thus,

=> 3•(larger no.) - 2 = 5•(smaller no.)

=> 3(x+4) - 2 = 5x

=> 3x + 12 - 2 = 5x

=> 5x - 3x = 12 - 2

=> 2x = 10

=> x = 10/2

=> x = 5

Hence,

Smaller number = x = 5

The larger number = (x+4) = (5+4) = 9 .

SOLUTION:-

════════════

Given:

•One of the two numbers exceeds the other by 4.

•If 2 less than 3 times the larger number is equal to 5 times the smaller number.

To find:

══════

The number.

Explanation:

═════════

•Assume the smaller number be R.

•The larger number be R+4.

According to the question:

═════════════════

=) 3(R+4)-2 = 5R

=) 3R+12 -2 = 5R

=) 3R +10 = 5R

=) 3R -5R= -10

=) -2R = -10

=) 2R= 10

=) R= 10/2

=) R= 5

Thus,

  • Smaller number is R= 5
  • Larger number,R+4=5+4=9
