Smaller number = 5

Larger number = 9

Solution:

It is given that, one of the two numbers exceeds the other by 4.

Thus,

Let the the smaller number be x and the larger number be (x+4)

According to the question,

2 less than 3 times of the larger number is equal to 5 times the smaller number.

Thus,

=> 3(larger no.) - 2 = 5(smaller no.)

=> 3(x+4) - 2 = 5x

=> 3x + 12 - 2 = 5x

=> 5x - 3x = 12 - 2

=> 2x = 10

=> x = 10/2

=> x = 5

Hence,

\bold{Smaller\: number = x = 5}

\bold{The\: larger \:number = (x+4) = (5+4) = 9}
